Challenge

Onboard Trident Seafoods’ catcher-processor vessels, seafood is harvested and processed entirely at sea in harsh operating conditions. Workers spend long shifts in cold, wet production environments where product quality and food safety are critical. One of the most demanding applications aboard the vessel is fish inspection, where operators examine fillets on candling tables to identify and remove bones before packaging.

The existing inspection areas required reliable illumination that could withstand constant moisture exposure while providing the visibility needed for accurate quality control. Any lighting solution deployed in these environments needed to resist corrosion, perform consistently in washdown conditions, and be simple to install and maintain aboard a working processing vessel.

Solution

G&G Industrial Lighting partnered with Trident Seafoods to provide a lighting solution built for the unique challenges of marine food processing. G&G’s GPX LED luminaires were installed beneath transparent conveyor inspection tables, illuminating fish fillets from below to create a highly visible candling effect that allows workers to quickly identify and remove bones.

The GPX fixtures were selected for their rugged construction, corrosion resistance, and ability to perform reliably in extremely wet environments. Their Direct AC design also simplified installation aboard the vessel while eliminating components that can be vulnerable in harsh marine conditions.

Result

The new lighting system delivered bright, uniform illumination directly where workers needed it most, improving visibility during the inspection process and helping support Trident’s commitment to product quality. The successful performance of the GPX fixtures in this demanding application has led Trident to evaluate additional deployments throughout its processing operations, including freezer areas and overhead factory lighting.

By providing durable, dependable illumination in one of the most challenging food processing environments imaginable, G&G helped Trident enhance inspection efficiency while reducing concerns about lighting reliability in wet, corrosive marine conditions.
